Gigabit Ethernet Copper SFPs

  MRV offers three different models of Gigabit Copper SFPs to accommodate different types of applications. The SFP-GC model supports Gigabit Ethernet with a 1000Base-TX interface and is designed for Layer 1 network devices. The SFP-EFG module supports Ethernet, Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet via the auto-negotiating 10/100/1000Base-TX interface. It is designed for use with converters and repeaters. Finally, the SFP-GA-RJ is designed for use in Layer 2 and above devices such as switches and routers. It supports GbE with an auto negotiating 1000Base-TX interface. All three SFPs support MDI/MDI-X auto-detect.

  Installed in select MRV products having an available SFP port, the SFP-EFG and SFP-GC plug-ins provide an easy and cost-effective way to merge copper and fiber network segments. The SFP-GA-RJ gives network administrators greater flexibility in configuring their SFP-enabled switches and routers, allowing them to use less expensive copper cabling and interfaces for links of 100m or less.

  Note that the SFP-GC, SFP-EFG and SFP-GA-RJ do not match translate between edge devices of different speeds or duplex. Therefore, both edge devices must operate at the same speed and duplex mode. An edge device that supports auto-negotiation may need to have its interface set to the appropriate speed and duplex. The SFP-GC and SFP-EFG must be used in pairs, one at each side of the data link.
